Mother describes Thomas Lobbs' heart transplant, and what's ahead for Taylor boy
Magnolia Reporter

Thomas Lobbs, age 8, of Taylor, is recovering for heart transplant surgery.
Editorâs Note: As our readers know, Thomas Lobbs, age 8, of Taylor, had a heart transplant operation in August. Just before Thomasâ transplant, his mother, Laci Lobbs, wrote for magnoliareporter.com an article in which she outlined the medical circumstances leading up to the requirement for the heart transplant. We recently asked Mrs. Lobbs to write a second story, describing the events immediately up to the operation and the aftermath, and her thoughts about the need for human organs donations. Her story follows.
On Monday, August 6, 2012 at 8:57 p.m., we got the call that we have been waiting on for two months -- the call was that a heart was a match to Thomas! We had very mixed emotions as we were so happy since we knew this is what was needed for Thomas to stay here with us, but we were also very saddened by the fact that another family had to say goodbye to their child. While going through this difficult time they chose to give a second chance at life not only to Thomas, but to seven other children as well. We will forever be grateful to this family whether we meet or not.
The next few hours that night were a blur as we cried tears of joy and sadness, then we started making calls to family members and close friends about the news. After our phonesâ batteries started dying, we took to Facebook where we announced it on Thomasâs page. The nurses came in to draw labs and take chest X-rays. Then we were told the time that Thomas would be going into surgery at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7.
