Cedarville police chief undergoes liver transplant

Cedarville Police Chief Chris Gillaugh is a self-described âtalker,â but he only needs a single word to describe his status as of late.
âBlessed.â
After spending more than a year waiting to receive a liver transplant, he underwent the surgery at University of Cincinnati Medical Center about two weeks ago. Gillaugh, 52, began noticing a lack of energy a couple years ago. At times, he had difficulty breathing.
He rebounded quickly after the surgery, which spanned several hours. Doctors told him itâs not unusual for patients to remain in the hospital a couple weeks after a procedure of that ilk. Gillaugh was released in five days.
âWhen I woke up, I felt different,â he said. âI felt an energy that I hadnât felt in a long time.â
Gillaughâs been with the Cedarville Police Department for 30 years. Heâs been chief for 12. In his absence, the department has been run by long-time, part-timer John Prugh.
