World’s shortest race makes it easy to do good through organ, eye and tissue donation

Marathoners run for an impressive 26 miles. Those who run the half go at it for 13 miles. In a 5k, racers’ feet hit the street for just more than 3 miles. But for participants in a new Lifebanc event, finishing the race is as easy as traveling just 32 feet. Literally.

The Lifebanc Good Made Easy .01k puts a new twist on the running craze that has gained popularity in Northeast Ohio. It challenges participants to travel just .01 kilometer â€" 32 feet, to be exact. If the race seems a bit too easy, then you get the point. Lifebanc, Northeast Ohio’s nonprofit organ and tissue recovery organization, created the event to help demonstrate how easy it is to save and heal lives through organ donation.

“Our Good Made Easy campaign was designed to help shift the perception of organ, eye and tissue donation from one of a weighty commitment to that of a simple, everyday opportunity for people to make a real, positive impact on the world,” said Gordon Bowen, chief executive officer for Lifebanc. “Like becoming an organ donor, the race was created to be quick and easy for anyone to compete. It is our hope that Northeast Ohioans will view organ, eye and tissue donation in the same way.”
