Official Transplant Games of America Flag to be Presented and Signed By Local Transplant Recipients

Los Angeles, CA â€" On Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 8am Team SoCal will come together to celebrate the countdown to the 2014 Transplant Games of America at Ocean View Park in Santa Monica, CA. Members of Team SoCal will sign the flag which will then travel across the country for signatures from the more than 40 participating teams nationwide. The flag will then return to Houston, Texas where it will fly over BBVA Compass Stadium during the Opening Ceremonies of the 2014 Transplant Games of America.

The Transplant Games of America is a multi-sport festival event that celebrates organ, corneal, and tissue donation. More than 3,000 participants from across the United States will travel to Houston for the five day event next summer. Competitions include track and field events, swimming, cycling, volleyball, bowling, basketball and four new non-traditional events, ballroom dancing, cornhole Texas Hold-em Poker, and a trivia challenge. A public 5K Run/Walk will launch the event to promote the need for more organ donors. The Transplant Games will take place across Houston, Texas July 11-15, 2014

Over the last year, Jennifer Carrino had come back from the brink of death, survived internal bleeding and spent weeks in intensive care. Then came the hard part: asking her cousin for a part of her liver. In April, doctors told Jennifer that without a transplant she probably had a year to live. Jennifer, 37, was already on transplant waiting lists in two states, but it was going to take too long, they said. She needed to think about a living donor.
