Sofia. The World Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation will be marked at Sofiaâs Sv. Ekaterina University Specialised Hospital for Active Treatment at the Aula Maxima hall at 11 a.m.
The event is organised in cooperation with the âFuture for Allâ Alliance of the people with transplantations and operations; the Association of Reproductive Health, Pregnancy and Childcare "Smile" and the Association of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
More than 56,000 people in Europe need a transplantation of organs, tissues and cells.
The transplantation is one of the biggest miracles in the modern medicine, which allows hundreds of people with serious diseases to continue their life. Every year the number of people, who need a transplantation of organs, tissues and cells, is increasing, which is due to the aging of the population, pollution, unhealthy life. Unfortunately, the number of donors is not enough to meet the needs.
The chronology of transplantations in Bulgaria starts in 1969, when the first kidney transplantation was made. By 2011, the statistics say that 807 people need a liver, 25 people need a heart and 4 people need a lung.
The World Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation initiative aims at increasing peopleâs awareness about the prevention and control of the risk of different diseases, which damage the organs, as well as about the organ donation, and other related issues.
