As Glenn Corbett paced the floor at Boston’s Logan International Airport last Friday afternoon, his mind was filled with the thought that at any moment he would meet the recipient of his daughter’s heart.

Sixty-year-old Yolanda Beavers was arriving from Texas with her daughter to meet Glenn and his family and to participate in a 5K road race held in his daughter’s honor. Glenn is the father of Kristen Corbett, a young woman and organ donor who tragically died at age 20 nearly three years ago in a car accident in Austin, where she had been attending college.

“I’m walking around the airport right now like I’m eight years old on Christmas Eve,” said the emotional father in an interview from the airport, as television news crews and reporters surrounded him, anxious to capture the moment on camera.

Beavers, who suffered from cardio myopathy, a condition in which the heart is enlarged, had been given only six months to live. She was on a transplant list for just one week when Kristen passed away on Dec. 10, 2009. Beavers had surgery and received Kristen’s heart the next day.
