Willis youth football program to highlight LifeGift organ donations
Your Houston News | Brad Meyer

Every day, 18 people across America die waiting for a transplant â" a needless human tragedy that could be avoided through organ donation.
To help raise awareness, members of the Willis Saints youth football team will be wearing green when they take the field against the Montgomery Bulldogs at 9 a.m. Oct. 20 in a North County Youth Football League matchup. The event takes place at West Montgomery County Park, located at 16716 FM 149 in Montgomery.
âMy son Brock will be playing in honor of his grandmother, who died in April waiting for a liver transplant,â said Casey Patrick, of Conroe. âShe was number one on the list, but a donor was not located in time.â
Norma Patrick, the family matriarch, was diagnosed with liver disease in November 2011. She was approved for a liver transplant and put on the national waiting list and was approved for the next suitable donor for nearly two months â" but a matching donor was not available.
âOur goal is to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and encouraging people to sign up,â Patrick said. âWeâll have sign-up cards at the event or people can register at any Department of Public Safety office when they renew their license.â
