U.S. Transplant Waiting List Nearing 116,000

According to the United Network for Organ Sharing, UNOS, the United States transplant waiting list will top 116,000 individuals very shortly. 

The breakdown of the wait list by organs as of October 17, 2012:

1 individual's name added every 11 minutes
20 people die on the wait list every day

1 organ donor can save the lives of up to 8 people
1 tissue donor can save and enhance the lives of 50 or more
