Runners and walkers raise awareness for organ and tissue donation

SANTA CLARA, Calif. â€" The California Transplant Donor Network put on their annual Donate Life Run/Walk at California's Great America theme park in Santa Clara on Saturday, September 20th.

About 1000 runners and walkers took to the 5k course, as well a ‘kids dash’, all in an effort to raise funds and advocate the importance of tissue and organ donation.

“Please become a donor; I’m alive and well. It’s been 10 years since October, 10 years since the surgery,” said Trista Allen from Antioch who was there to support the event and raise awareness for donors. “I caught the flu, it turned into cardiomyopathy and I got a heart transplant when I was 11.”
