For the 32 people honorted to ride the 10th annual Donate Life float in the 2013 Rose Parade, their emotional journeys mirror the highs, low and all points in between shared by the national community of organ and tissue recipients, transplant candidates, living donors and families of deceased donors they represent. The 2013 Donate Life float will carry individuals aged 12 to 68 from 17 states and Canada who were selected by local organizations for their example of courage, hope, genorsity and advocacy for organ and tissue donation Monday, December 31, 2012. PASADENA >> Though he can no longer watch the parade with his family, late Deep River resident Robert Novak, Jr. will grace the streets of Pasadena Tuesday in a tribute to his memory in this yearâs Rose Parade.
Novakâs smiling face, recreated in flowers, seeds and bark, is among 72 âfloragraphsâ that will adorn this yearâs Donate Life float, which honors organ donors and celebrates the lives of donation recipients.
The float, in its tenth Rose Parade appearance, will also feature 32 riders, all of whom received organ or tissue donations.
âThe float has come to mean so much to so many people. For people in need of a transplant itâs become a beacon of hope,â said Donate Life Float Committee Chair Bryan Stewart. âFor families of donors itâs become a memorial that is a tribute to their loved ones each and every year, and to people who received a transplant it embodies everything that the gift of life has made possible for them.â
