Many gather at Donate Life Month conference
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- April is national 'Donate A Life' month, and now local doctors and patients are teaming up to encourage Southern New Englanders to consider becoming blood and organ donors.
Bristol resident Wendy Foley was leading a healthy life as a pregnant mother until she paid a visit to the doctor in October 2003.
Foley was told she had a very rare disease and was forced to undergo a double lung transplant. Since then, she has not only survived, she's thrived.
"I cycle, I do Irish step dancing, I swim, I dance, I walk. Yesterday I took an aerobics class and I did a walk around a state park. So this is an amazing new life for me," Foley said.
Foley is one of many Rhode Islanders affected by an organ transplantation. Others joined her to raise awareness for both organ and blood donation at a National Donate Life Month conference.
