APRIL IS 'DONATE LIFE MONTH'

The month of April is designated National Donate Life Month, a time to reflect on the drastic need for more registered organ, eye and tissue donors. To heighten awareness even further, Donate Life America has created Blue and Green Day, scheduled for April 19, 2013.

People across the nation will be wearing blue and/or green to offer HOPE to the more than 117,000 Americans waiting for a life-saving transplant; HONOR the heroes of organ, eye and tissue donation; REMEMBER those that died waiting for their second chance at life; and CELEBRATE the recipients who received the "Gift of Life" through transplantation.

How Can You Participate?

• Invite your colleagues, contacts and/or customers to wear blue and/or green on April 19, 2013. Show your support for donation via your social media sites. Take a photo of you and your colleagues on April 19 and upload it to your Facebook or Twitter accounts. Be sure to tag Lifeline of Ohio in your post! 

• Take a picture of your Donate Life colors and post it on the Donate Life America Facebook page (facebook/#!/DonateLife) from Friday, April 19 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 to enter the Blue & Green Day contest! You can submit your photo in one of seven categories including fashion, arts and crafts/decorations, food and recipes, groups and decorated work space. The top five images with the most likes in each category will be voted on by all fans and the winning image from each category will earn a $100 gift card. The person who submitted the image will be awarded the prize.

All images become property of Donate Life America once submitted and may be used to promote organ, eye and tissue donation, without expiration.

Over the last year, Jennifer Carrino had come back from the brink of death, survived internal bleeding and spent weeks in intensive care. Then came the hard part: asking her cousin for a part of her liver. In April, doctors told Jennifer that without a transplant she probably had a year to live. Jennifer, 37, was already on transplant waiting lists in two states, but it was going to take too long, they said. She needed to think about a living donor.
