Teen given hours to live receives liver transplant

A 14-year-old boy who doctors said had just hours to live was given a second chance when he received a liver transplant early Saturday.

Three weeks ago, Adam Snow was a healthy teenager who loved to fish and play football.

But in the time since then, he's been confined to a hospital bed fighting for his life.

"Now he's sedated. He can't move. He really can't talk. He's in a battle for his life right now," his father told WTAE Channel 4 Action News' Andrew Del Greco.

His parents said he developed flu-like symptoms a few weeks ago, and was later diagnosed with an unexplainable case of acute liver failure.

"This little boy has gone through so much. He doesn't deserve to be where he's at. If there's anything we could have done, we would. We just need somebody to help us," said his mother, Linda Snow.

Her son's case is so rare that he was put at the top of the list to receive a new liver.

Doctors said Friday that if Adam did not receive a new liver in 24 to 36 hours, he wouldn't survive.

“He's still at a point that if he gets a liver in the next 24 to 36 hours, he has a high chance of recovering fully and living a nice, full life, even to the point of he might be able to play football. It's just so sad,” said Linda Snow. “Our last hope is for someone to have a heart. If they have someone in a condition that it's a possibility they could donate a liver to us, it would be the answer."
